Hipparchus: Taurus
Hipparchus lists two alignments from the Hyades (the face of the bull) to stars in the ‘skin’, or shield, of Orion.
We take this as an invitation to try to find alignments to help identify the other seven stars of the shield.
Along the way, we connect with many of the stars of Orion, and identify the stars which mark the end of the Bull.
We’ve argued that star alignments were used by the earliest astronomer/astrologers to define the stars and to navigate the sky.
Here, we’d like to remind readers that they’re still a great tool for learning and finding the stars.
