Ptolemy: Scorpio
We get a little crazy here.
We’re beyond trying to reconstruct Ptolemy’s text – we’re actively looking to augment it.
Convinced by now that ancient astronomers used alignments and geometric figures in crafting a ‘memory palace’ of the nighttime sky, we let ourselves go wild with inferences and extrapolations.
In the end, we can’t argue conclusively that any particular line or figure we’ve added to Ptolemy’s text was known to ancient astronomers.
But we are certain that alignments such as these were used by naked-eye astronomers in defining the stars and constellations.
